This week we announced that our Board of Trustees has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent to partner with CHE Trinity Health. Now we enter into a period of due diligence to allow both organizations to examine key issues that will lead to the future.
This is an important and exciting opportunity for the ongoing mission and future strategic position of St. Joseph’s.
I had the opportunity to travel our system and talk to groups of employees about this decision. They listened intently and their questions focused on many of the things we will want to understand during due diligence. Will they really preserve our mission? How will they help us prepare for health reform? How might our jobs change?
There was clearly excitement about the chance to preserve our heritage, share best practices, and share economies of scale. Many employees commented after these sessions how hopeful they were that this would give us a path into the future alongside other systems that share common mission and values.
Sister Roberta Smith on behalf of our sponsors said, "We believe CHE Trinity Health offers a strong vision bound by faith for the future of St. Joseph's."
The Sisters will remain on our Board and involved with spiritual care. That’s important to us, and continues to define our ‘higher level of care.’
It is hard to adequately describe the passion and commitment the leaders of CHE Trinity Health bring to the work they do, and we wanted to share some of those views in a few video links they have provided us:

Thanks to all the employees who attended the forums this week, asking great questions. We are collecting those in administration, and will provide more feedback over the coming months through huddles, forums and FAQ's. We have also developed a link on our employee-only website for your review and for future updates.
I am confident that CHE Trinity Health will preserve our mission, while offering us a framework to prepare for the future.
We have stood on the shoulders of many great Sister sponsors, board members and community leaders over the past 150 years. CHE Trinity Health will continue that tradition.
As one employee said, "and please tell them we were founded by a Saint!"
Thanks for all or your great support and questions. Forums with the CEO continue throughout this week and we have added extra sessions for the hospital campus. The complete schedule is available on the employee-only website.
