Current research reveals that the prevalence of obesity (BMI > 30) has increased from 14% of adults in the United States in 1980 to 30% in 2000. While there has been an improved focus on healthier eating and increasing physical activity as well as an increased awareness in the dangers of obesity, these rates continue to rise. The fastest growing obesity population is those with a BMI of > 50. That is very scary, especially when you think about the healthcare costs associated with that level of obesity.
