Syracuse Federation of Women’s Clubs Presents Oberlander Cup Award for “Care and Share Closet”
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Federation of Women’s Clubs presented the Anna Williams Oberlander Memorial Achievement Cup to the Auxiliary of St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, Inc., at its annual meeting April 10, at Barbagallo’s Restaurant in East Syracuse, N.Y. Now in its 65th year, the Cup is presented annually to the member club whose civic contributions in the last year have been most deserving of recognition.
The Auxiliary’s Care and Share Closet program was specifically recognized. The project stocks a cabinet in St. Joseph’s Hospital Emergency Department with items of clothing for patients without adequate clothing, due to personal circumstance or injury. The closet is available for them to access appropriate clothing when they are released from the hospital.
“Food, shelter and clothing are human needs that must be met for people to feel empowered to better themselves and their community,” said Stephanie Macero, president of the Auxiliary. “Providing these patients with clothing offers them respect, warmth and physical protection.”
The Auxiliary boasts a membership of approximately 500 men and women dedicated to serving the needs of St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. The Auxiliary dates back to the establishment of the hospital and has proudly continued its mission to promote and advance the welfare of St. Joseph’s and to serve the needs of the hospital by assisting the administration in any and every way possible for nearly 140 years. The Auxiliary is the oldest hospital Auxiliary in Syracuse and one of the earliest organizations in Central New York.
