St. Joseph’s Observes Health Care Auxilian Day

SYRACUSE – St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center is observing Health Care Auxilian Day May 8, along with Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York State. The day recognizes the dedicated auxiliary members who donate more than five million hours of service each year to their healthcare facilities and communities.

The Auxiliary of St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center is in the midst of a $1 million pledge to the Generations capital campaign to support the expansion of St. Joseph’s Hospital. Its most recent gift to St. Joseph’s totaled $275,000, representing revenue from the Hospital Gift Shop, Baby Photo program, Coffee Bar, Follies, wine tasting and a number of other revenue-producing Auxiliary projects.

In addition, the Auxiliary does several community service projects, including the “Operation Backpack for Our Kids” and the “Reach Out and Read” programs at St. Joseph’s primary care centers. A new project, “Care and Share Closet,” is helping to provide emergency department patients with appropriate clothing. The Auxiliary also provides scholarships to students attending St. Joseph’s College of Nursing.

The Auxilians who are part of the Auxiliary of St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, Inc., join the more than 75,000 health care auxilians who initiate, fund and volunteer for a wide variety of patient and family care services—from outpatient clinics to intensive care units. They sponsor community health fairs, health screenings, blood banks, and wellness lectures; raise funds for hospital and nursing home equipment; and organize and underwrite outreach programs in their communities.

St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center is a non-profit, 431-bed hospital and health care system in Syracuse, New York, providing services to patients in 16 counties in Central New York State. Through prevention programs and the latest diagnostic treatment procedures, St. Joseph's works with patients to achieve optimum long-term health. A 14-time winner of the National Research Corporation Consumer Choice award, St. Joseph’s is affiliated with Franciscan Companies and sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis.
