You will “wake-up” in the PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) after your surgery. PACU nursing is performed in a professional manner, implementing current standards of nursing practice upheld through utilization of guidelines issued by the American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA).
Your family members should be aware that your type of surgery may take several hours to complete. The surgeon will talk with your family when the surgery is completed. He or she will call on the phone in the surgical waiting room on the first floor.
