It's been an interesting week. My mother ended up in the hospital, and we welcomed a new baby in the family. I went from watching the pain of fragility in orthopedics, to the joy that greets you in our Labor and Delivery Unit!
It was a great reminder to me of what makes a truly great patient experience.
We experienced rooms that are clean, staff who go the extra mile (including a nurse who got ice cream for the great grandchildren visiting grandma), and physicians who communicate and call you with updates. Meals on demand are a hit and give the patient control.
Our nurses multitask better than anyone I know. They know how to make someone a little more comfortable, where to get an extra comb, and they ask about a person's history or share a personal story to distract the patient.
I also saw how hard it is to navigate two patients in a room with equipment that just doesn't fit this new world, and the mess this winter weather makes for our housekeepers as visitors track in everything from outside.
Through it all, our staff and physicians work to make every patient safe and comfortable. You are amazing in all that you handle. Thank you from a grateful family.
