The Children and Youth Clinic provides behavioral health services to children up to the age of 18 and their families. Children and youth are treated individually, in families, in groups, through collaborative services for parents and significant others. Medication services are also available.
The evaluation process for children and youth continues to be comprehensive in nature. In crisis situations an immediate evaluation is arranged and an appropriate response is made. Patients referred by psychiatric in-patient facilities, and by the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center are offered evaluation appointments within five working days.
Patients typically come to the attention of the team through telephone contact with the intake worker. The intake worker assigns a therapist who generally remains as the primary therapist throughout the course of treatment. Following evaluation, a treatment plan is formulated and implemented. Psychological testing and psychiatric consultation and evaluation may be requested as needed.
Treatment modalities include individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy and medication therapy.

Additionally, Children and Youth provide school based behavioral health services in our satellite office at Porter Elementary School in the Syracuse City School District.
Lastly, Children and Youth is conducting behavioral health screening in our St. Joseph’s primary care offices, which is made possible through a grant focusing on early identification and prevention, offered by the NYS Office of Mental Health.
