Nursing Opportunities

Community and Opportunity with a Purpose

You are a caregiver. Every day you give care by acting in the best interest of someone else. Caring for your patients—making a difference—is central to who you are as nurse and caregiver.

For those who choose a St. Joseph’s nursing career, they find a community that offers opportunity and something more: a purpose that empowers and fulfills.

A health care professional with skills that are in demand, we offer you a caregiver community that honors our nearly 150-year-old mission and commitment to delivering quality care with compassion and service excellence. We seek to attract and retain the most talented and dedicated healthcare professionals. By considering a future with us, you are taking the first step toward a rewarding and fulfilling journey as part of our Magnet family.

A Higher Level of Care

A Higher Level of Care is more than just a tagline. It is a fundamental belief that guides clinical decisions at the bedside and throughout St. Joseph’s system of care. St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center has always connected with employees and those we serve through strong foundational relationships. Grounded in our Franciscan tradition and values, we are about being Passionate Healers Dedicated to Honoring the Sacred in our Sisters and Brothers.

Shared Governance

Shared governance allows our caregiver voices to be heard in matters concerning clinical practice, policies, procedures and much more. Through the Unit Practice Councils and Clinical Practice Council, we promote collegial and professional autonomy and collaboration. Decision-making becomes shared by those closest to the patient and family, or where the work gets done.

A nurse shared, “My experience clearly shows the supportive nature of our nursing program and how we want our staff to grow and develop with us. Once you begin the journey at St. Joseph's, there is no telling where that road will take you and the things you will achieve.”

Leadership Development

All nursing leaders convey a strong sense of advocacy and support on behalf of staff and patients. State-of-the-art technology, a nursing education specialist and a variety of educational systems support patient care and staff learning. An electronic health record, with clinical decision support, aids care planning and documentation.

Leadership development begins with all newly hired nursing staff receiving education on Magnet recognition, evidence-based practice and shared governance. We continue to develop internal leaders by offering numerous courses with emphasis on current leadership concepts. All nurses have a unique opportunity to grow in their professional and leadership skills to further their career and enhance their professional experience.

As part of St. Joseph’s community of caring offers, you will have the advantages of working for the region’s largest health systems. St. Joseph’s Health is a non-profit regional health care system based in Syracuse, N.Y., providing services to patients throughout Central New York and northern Pennsylvania. From primary care to specialty care, to the hospital, home care, and in collaboration with our community partners, St. Joseph's works with patients to achieve optimum long-term health. A 15-time winner of the National Research Corporation Consumer Choice award, St. Joseph’s is affiliated with Franciscan Companies and sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis.
