Family Medicine Center

The Family Medicine Center provides medical care to people of all ages including delivering babies, caring for children, women's health, care of hospitalized patients, and office care for most medical problems. You and your family will have a doctor to care for your family's needs.

Our Doctors

Approximately 36 resident physicians work in the Family Medicine Center at various times during the week. Our resident physicians are doctors who have completed medical school and are getting further training in the specialty of Family Medicine. They are supervised by faculty physicians who are Board Certified in Family Medicine and are present during office hours.

Our health care teams

To deliver more personalized care to our large population of patients, our staff is divided into three health care teams. Our staff consists of physicians, nurses, mid-level providers, secretaries and support personnel.

Each team consists of approximately 12 Family Medicine residents and functions as a small group practice. If you or a member of your family has an urgent medical problem and your physician does not have scheduled office hours, you will be seen by another physician on your team or in the unit.

A medical social worker and family therapist are also available in the office.

Office hours and appointments

Patient appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

              Telephone Numbers

  •  Team I      448-5491
  •  Team II     448-549
  •  Team III    448-5493

All visits are on an appointment only basis. Limited evening office hours are available Monday through Thursday. If your call is non-urgent, the best time to call for an appointment is after 10 a.m. If you are late for your appointment, you may be asked to reschedule.

Time is planned into each day's schedule to allow for patients who are sick and must be seen that day. Please call in advance to arrange an appointment time.

To cancel an appointment

To cancel your appointment, please call your team secretary at least 24 hours in advance. This will allow us to see other patients who need medical attention during that time. You are expected to keep your scheduled appointment. Notify us of any problems in keeping your appointments.

Emergencies

If you have a life threatening emergency, go to the nearest emergency room. Identify yourself as a St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center Family Medicine Patient.

If your medical problem is not life threatening but requires care relatively soon, call your team secretary between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

  • Depending on the nature of your problem, you will be scheduled for an appointment
  • When the office is close, call 448-5111 and ask for the Family Medicine doctor on call. It is important to talk with the Family Medicine doctor before you come in to the hospital.

Prescriptions or medication refills

Please request routine prescriptions or refills when you have a visit with your doctor. If you do not have a scheduled doctor's visit, please call your pharmacy or the office five days in advance of when you prescription will run out. You will need:

  • the name of your prescription
  • the dose
  • how often you take it
  • the number of pills you have left
  • the name and the phone number of your pharmacy
  • your doctor's name
