Celebrating Le Moyne College – A Valued Partner

This past Sunday morning I attended the Ignatian Mass at Le Moyne College. The service was led by Father David McCallum, a young dynamic Jesuit who inspires me every time I hear him. He reminded the alumni about the responsibility a Jesuit education brings. Le Moyne was also celebrating the retirement of Barb Maylone Karper, Associate VP for Student Affairs for 40 years. For any woman who graduated from LeMoyne from 1974 until today, Barb touched you with her elegance, care and concern for students in a very special way.

Le Moyne College is a unique partner for St. Joseph's and our College of Nursing, but it's much more than that. Many of our senior staff graduated from Le Moyne or attended graduate classes there. Many of our clinical affiliates, finance staff and nurses also attended Le Moyne for their four year and graduate degrees.

Le Moyne's new President, Linda LeMura, grew up on Syracuse’s Northside, and has supported work in the area at Cathedral at Pompeii School and with the refugees who have settled in Syracuse. Several of our refugee employees have gone on to attend Le Moyne College.

We share common missions and values, and roots in Catholic tradition.

Partnerships help us to extend our work in the community. Without them, we would be limited in our ability to meet the challenges of the future. Thank you to Le Moyne for all you do for our community and for the St. Joseph's system.

Finally, congratulations to Barb, who inspired this CEO in my time at Le Moyne.
