Advancing Excellence

Achieving Magnet

This week we celebrate receiving our American Organization of Nurse Executives Credentialing Center Magnet designation. On Thursday we will hold a pinning ceremony, and across the system, celebrate this unique accomplishment.

It is a symbol of the strong culture we have around nursing and teamwork. Only 397 organizations world wide have achieved this designation, with only 22 in New York State!  We are the only Magnet-designated hospital in Central New York.

Magnet represents promoting quality, identifying excellence and disseminating best practices. When I think about  nursing at St. Joseph's it represents all these things.

The Magnet surveyors pointed out "exemplars," best practices at St. Joseph's. Exemplars such as our Seeds of Hope program in SICU, our strong commitment to behavioral health and the unique collaboration between CPEP, inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, and additionally they noted our Chief Nursing Officer, AnneMarie Czyz, for her leadership to advance nursing to the highest level across our team.

The surveyors said to me over and over, how well we lived our mission and represented the values of Magnet.

Congratulations to the Magnet Education Committee for all your hard work in making sure the organization was well prepared.

Finally congratulations to all of you. This designation is something we all should celebrate and be proud of, because as our CNO would say, it's all about teamwork!
