St. Joseph's Health Connections

Nov 7 2013
Donald Riefschneider, Faculty

In honor of Veterans Day, observed Nov. 11, we are profiling Veterans who now are on faculty or students of St. Joseph's College of Nursing.

Q: What branch of the service are you affiliated with? What is your highest rank and where have you served?

Navy, Commander.  Chicago, Pensacola, Fla., Beaufort, S.C., Puerto Rico, San Diego and Omaha, Neb.

Q: Are you part of a military family, if so, name the members and their affiliation.

Son, Navy Seabee for 18 years now.  Daughter, Army Nurse for 10.

Q:  What, if any, experiences in the service prompted you to pursue a nursing degree?

Got interested in nursing as Navy medic observing what nurses do and how they care.

Q: What are the similarities of the service and nursing school?

There are probably more rules at this college for the students than what I saw in the Navy although both have required uniforms.

Q: Is there anything else you want to share?

Service is great for young people to see the country/world and figure out what they want to do.
