Blood Conservation Program

Our Integrated Blood Conservation Program uses state-of-the-art techniques to minimize a patient's blood loss before, during and after medical treatment, as well as medications that help improve a patient's blood count. Using these techniques can also reduce the risk of infection, which can speed the healing and recovery process.

A specially trained nurse will evaluate your current blood levels and, with your surgeon, may recommend therapy that will minimize the effects of blood loss and decrease your need for blood transfusions.

Since this program began in January 2007, the number of blood transfusions needed by joint replacement patients has significantly decreased.
