Rev. Joe Colon is a United Church of Christ Minister, and an on-call consultant for Spanish speaking patients for Crouse Hospital. He has Master’s degree in Social Work, specializing in family therapy. He also has Master’s degree in Divinity. Chaplain Joe is an expert and has lectured on disaster response and first responder trauma. He has also published articles on, "Chaplaincy and Mental Health and Hospital Operational Debriefing. " Chaplain Joe has completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Upstate Medical. In his spare time he enjoys reading and spending time with his family and two rescue dogs.

Sister Adelbert Durant    


Sister Adelbert Durant is a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities and a Catholic Chaplain in St Joseph Health. During the 4 weekday schedule, Sister is currently the hospital's weekend chaplain on Saturdays. During the 3 weekday schedule, Sister is currently the chaplain on D-4, D-5, Ed-Obs., and 3-4.. Sister is a 2015 Graduate of the 4 year program in Catholic Biblical Studies. She received an all-paid trip to Israel in 2012. She joined the other members of the biblical class in traveling to Israel. She has completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education at Sisters Hospital in Buffalo, NY in 2011. She participated in the Level I and Level 2 Healing Touch Program in 2013 and in 2015 respectively. Sister has attended most of the Health-related Educational presentations given by the hospital. Sister Adelbert has ministered in many different positions in St. Joseph Hospital Health Care Center: She joined the Spiritual Care Department in 2006 as a Chaplain on the Cardiac Units and Telemetry Units. Sister was trained in ENLEC and joined the Palliative Care Team as a Chaplain on the Oncology Units and the Urology / Renal Units. Before chaplaincy Sister was trained, certified and commissioned as a Patient Advocate in the Emergency Department by St. Joseph’s Hospital Pastoral Care Department in 2004. Sister worked as a Unit Secretary on the Urology and Renal unit in 2001 to 2003. Sister had started as a volunteer in the Spiritual Care Department at St. Joseph Hospital. Prior to health care ministry, she worked as a data processor and receptionist for a local parish, 1995-2001. She was an administrative assistant at the Personal Resource Psychotherapy Center in Syracuse and the secretary to the Director of Seminarian Formation for the Diocese of Syracuse, 1988-1995. She has a Bachelor Degree and a Master Degree in Elementary Education with a Permanent Certification in Elementary School Administration and Supervision. Sister received the Diocese of Syracuse permanent certification in Religious Education. She was an elementary and junior high teacher in the Syracuse Catholic System and elementary and junior high teacher in the Religious Education Programs of the Parishes. In her spare time she enjoys reading, walking, traveling, going to movies and being with friends.




Sister Christine Steigerwald is a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities. She has a Masters of Arts in German, Masters of Arts in Pastoral Ministry and is a Board Certified Chaplain and member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. She has ministered as a chaplain for 9 years within various setting including hospitals, nursing homes as well as Home Hospice in Hawaii. She feels that her 33 years as a Registered Nurse has been invaluable and has been a good foundation and support to her ministry as a chaplain. Currently Sister Chris is ministering as a chaplain on 1-4, 1-5, 2-4, 2-5, 4-1, 4-2, and 4-6/7



Joy Magee is a lay Roman Catholic chaplain. Joy joined the staff of spiritual care at St. Joseph's in 2011 after completing four units of Clinical Pastoral Education at Upstate Medical Hospital where she interned serving the patients, families and staff on the burn unit, cardiology, neurology, oncology and emergency department. Her previous pastoral experience in parish ministry has been in the areas of bereavement and visiting the homebound. Prior to CPE her ministry education was completed through the Syracuse Diocese LIMEX program with a focus in pastoral care. Retiring after 40 years as a nurse; Joy found that her experience working in various settings including hospital, hospice and home care has enhanced her ministry to the sick. She is also a per diem chaplain with the Syracuse Roman Catholic Diocese. Joy lives in Homer with her husband Mike, they have two children and five grandchildren that keep them quite busy.

Fr. Severine P Yagaza  


Severine P Yagaza is a native of Tanzania in East Africa. He is an ordained Roman Catholic priest in the Diocese of Syracuse (USA). While a chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, he also ministers as an assisting priest at the linked parishes of St. Matthew Church in East Syracuse, NY, St. Mary of the Assumption in Minoa, NY, and St. Francis of Assisi in Bridgeport, NY. He is also a priest on-call at Crouse Hospital and Upstate Medical Hospital in its Downtown and Community campuses. Fr. Severine is a graduate of Upstate Medical Hospital Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training program where he interned in pediatric, cardiology, palliative care, out-patient clinic, and emergency department (ER). As a chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, Fr. Severine ministers in assigned patients’ units as well as sacramental ministry throughout the hospital.
