St. Joseph’s Health Welcomes Hospitalist, Ankita Subedi, MD

SYRACUSE (October 8, 2018) – St. Joseph’s Health welcomes Ankita Subedi to its hospitalist team at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital. As a hospitalist, Dr. Subedi’s primary role will be to focus on the general medical care of hospitalized patients and to maintain open lines of communication with primary care physicians and specialists ensuring a continuum of care for patients.




Dr. Subedi comes to St. Joseph’s Health following the completion of her residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and earned her medical degree from the Institute of Medicine at Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal. At St. Vincent’s, she was actively involved in the establishment of a Family Health Clinic committed to the treatment of patients with Hepatitis C diagnosis.




While in Nepal, Dr. Subedi worked as a physician, holding the role of medical officer at Bharosa Hospital Private Limited in Kathmandu and volunteering her services in the rural villages of Nepal where residents do not have access to health care facilities. Dr. Subedi and her team established mobile health camps to address health care concerns and educate residents through health awareness classes. Additionally, the team provided professional development services for female health assistants, educating them on women's health issues and providing training to assist in addressing minor ailments as well as when to refer to a patients to a larger health institution.




Dr. Subedi was the expedition doctor for Himalayan Expeditions in Solukhumbu, Nepal, an ultra-marathon beginning at the base of Mt. Everest. In this capacity, she was responsible for treatment of injuries and health concerns during the ascent and descent. She trekked with race participants in order to provide minor and acute medical treatment.




An active researcher in her field, Dr. Subedi is presently a co-investigator of a project exploring blood pressure as a predictor of prognosis in patients with cirrhosis of the liver. She has also researched infection and mountain sickness in the Nepalese Himalayas, and quality improvement projects, specifically in the reduction of C. difficile infection among other projects.




Dr. Subedi is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in addition to earning certifications from National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), and the Nepal Medical Council. She is an active member of the American Medical Association, American College of physicians and Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal.
