Program Purpose/Description
The PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (ie, BCPS) and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
Program Overview
The St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center PGY1 residency program is designed to train select, highly-motivated and highly-qualified pharmacists and prepare them to provide patient centered, comprehensive, pharmaceutical care as a clinical pharmacist in acute care medicine. Fundamental skill development will be provided for residents as preparation for continuation onto PGY2 residency or fellowship in a specialty area of pharmacy practice and prepare them for future faculty/preceptor positions. Residents will acquire professional leadership skills and develop lifelong learning skills that will produce and maintain career satisfaction.
Our program strives to give residents a broad range of clinical experiences to launch their careers in whichever direction they desire. Each resident’s experience is tailored with customized elective opportunities to ensure their career goals are at the heart of the design of the year.
