Syracuse, NY (October 10, 2018) – After nearly six months of construction, St. Joseph’s Health will be officially opening Care Flight, a medical helipad which provides faster and easier access to St. Joseph’s top-rated cardiovascular emergency care and certified primary stroke center. Care Flight is located on top of our 98-foot-tall building on North State Street.

“St. Joseph’s new helipad will allow patients from surrounding counties who are facing life-threatening cardiac and stroke emergencies to be treated by our expert team much faster than if they were transported by ambulance,” says Leslie Paul Luke, President and CEO, St. Joseph’s Health. “The longer a cardiac patient has to wait for care, the more heart muscle they lose. And every minute a stroke is left untreated, millions of brain cells die. Reducing transit time will not only provide patients the world-class care they need as early as possible, but also exponentially boost their chances of favorable outcomes.”

St. Joseph’s has worked closely with LifeNet of New York, Mercy Flight Central, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police throughout the project. These organizations were instrumental in supporting the project’s development, safety and training.

Care Flight is the latest addition to the St. Joseph’s Health Cardiovascular Institute. St. Joseph’s Health Hospital is one of the top six hospitals in the nation for cardiac care* and is certified as a Primary Stroke Center. St. Joseph’s depth of experience and multi-specialty, team-based approach to our patient’s cardiac and stroke care allow us to offer the widest range of diagnostic and treatment options in the region.
