More Than 100 Events Across the Country Will Mark National Youth Enrollment Day

January 20, 2016 (Syracuse, NY) – Nearly 1 in 5 young adults don’t have health insurance. That’s why St. Joseph’s is focused on helping Central New Yorkers get insured.

On Thursday, January 21, 2016, St. Joseph’s Health will partner with Enroll America for National Youth Enrollment Day to educate uninsured young adults about their new low-cost health insurance options available under the Affordable Care Act.

“Here at St. Joseph’s we’ve found that sitting down with an expert is a critical resource to the uninsured to make sure everyone can protect themselves and their families,” said Deborah Welch, vice president for Mission Integration. “We’re working to connect consumers with free, in-person enrollment counselors in our community who can provide them guidance to find a health plan that’s right for them.”

Open enrollment continues until January 31st. St. Joseph’s Health patients interested in receiving a phone call for this one-on-one enrollment assistance can contact financialcounseling@sjhsyr.org or call (315) 448-5775.

Families need health insurance to protect themselves from sickness and injury. Insurance enables people to keep small problems small and be proactive about their health. It also provides peace of mind to help people face the unknowns in their future and deal with the risks that are part of everyday life. St. Joseph’s Health encourages all uninsured Central New Yorkers—especially young adults—to find an insurance plan that is right for them.

National Youth Enrollment Day is an annual day of action featuring dozens of national, state, and local organizations hosting innovative events to educate young people about their new low-cost health insurance options and how to enroll. This second annual day of action comes before the last day of Open Enrollment on January 31st .
