After nearly a year and about $600,000, a new Student Center opened today on the 6th floor at St. Joseph’s College of Nursing, which was a former residence of the Sisters of St. Francis.

Speakers at the blessing and opening event included: St. Joseph’s College of Nursing Vice President & Dean Marianne Markowitz and St. Joseph’s Health President & CEO Kathryn Ruscitto, and AnneMarie Czyz, sr. vice president for operations, COO/CNO and a graduate of the college. Reverend Joshua Czyz offered the blessing.

“With an increasing number of commuter students from our unique LeMoyne College Dual Degree Partnership, it was important to provide an environment that fosters learning and community building,” said Marianne Markowitz, vice president and dean for the College of Nursing. “The Student Center is a place to study, relax, learn and nurture relationships.”

The Student Center provides a much-needed dedicated testing space, a lounge and dining area, conference room for small group meetings with monitor and whiteboard, and study rooms for small group meetings or individual study with whiteboard painted walls.

Alumni, faculty, staff, the College Governing Board and friends of the college donated $100,000 towards the project with additional funds from an alumnus’s previous alumni’s major gift to the College.

The Student Center was designed by Dwyer Architects, with construction by Hayner Hoyt. Photos are available upon request.
