Syracuse, NY (October 28, 2019) – St. Joseph's Health welcomes Cardiothoracic Surgeon Anton L. Cherney, MD, FACS, FRCSC to its nationally-recognized Cardiovascular Institute. Dr. Cherney is an expert in minimally invasive procedures including Transcatheter Aortic Valve replacement (TAVR) and his interests include surgery for coronary heart disease, heart valve and aortic surgery, vascular surgery, and surgery for lung cancer.

Prior to joining St. Joseph’s Health, Dr. Cherney was a Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon for Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas located in Rogers, Arkansas. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario Canada and completed his residency in General Surgery through Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Cherney completed post-graduate fellowships in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, and Advanced Cardiac Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, also in Boston.

Dr. Cherney is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is licensed to practice medicine in New York, Arkansas and Massachusetts. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
