Gerald Mcmahon, M.D., and Ajaz Shawl, M.D. Join St. Joseph's Physicians Internal Medicine

SYRACUSE – St. Joseph’s Health welcomes Gerald McMahon, M.D., and Ajaz Shawl, M.D. to St. Joseph’s Physicians Internal Medicine in Syracuse, New York. The physicians join a diverse team of highly qualified internal medicine providers and both serve as faculty for the St. Joseph’s Family Medicine Residency. Prior to joining St. Joseph’s, Doctors McMahon and Shawl were in private practice in Central New York.

St. Joseph's Physicians Internal Medicine specializes in care for adults from age 18 through the end of life. Our physicians are board certified in internal medicine and treat both acute and chronic medical problems as well as conduct annual preventative physicals.

Gerald V. McMahon, M.D.

Dr. McMahon earned his Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, New York, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. His professional affiliations include: Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha, Onondaga County Medical Society, Medical Society of the State of New York, and the American College of Physicians.

An avid volunteer, Dr. McMahon actively participates in the community as a volunteer physician and has been participating in medical mission trips to Haiti for nearly a decade.

Ajaz Shawl, M.D.

Dr. Shawl earned his Doctor of Medicine from University of Kashmir, in Kashmir, India, and completed his residency at The State University of New York at Buffalo. His specialties include hospitalist medicine and adult preventive medicine, and he is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is the Vice President and President Elect of the medical staff at St. Joseph's Hospital and is a faculty member in the Family Medicine Residency program Dr. Shawl is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Member of Onondaga County Medical Society. has He has been a practicing physician for more than 25 years.
