St. Joseph’s Health Welcomes New Hospitalist Dr. Awais Ijaz
February 20, 2023SYRACUSE, N.Y. – (February 20, 2023) St. Joseph’s Health welcomes Awais Ijaz, MBBS, to St. Joseph’s Health Hospital in Syracuse. A board-certified physician, Dr. Ijaz joins our highly skilled team of hospitalists, who treat a wide range of conditions.
As a hospitalist, Dr. Ijaz focuses on the general medical care of patients from when they enter the hospital to when they’re discharged. He handles diagnosis, treatment, and coordination of care of needed specialists. This model of care improves the efficiency of care and overall patient outcomes. It is also proven to reduce the length of patient stays.
“I am excited to join St. Joseph’s Health Hospital,” Dr. Ijaz said. “The work environment is great, and everyone is very helpful. I have family and friends nearby, so Syracuse is the place for me to work.”
Prior to coming to St. Joseph’s Health, Dr. Ijaz provided patient care at several hospitals in Pakistan. When he moved to North America, he spent time at hospitals in New Jersey, Rochester, Arizona, and Canada, then completed his residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
He holds a MBBS degree from Allama Iqbal Medical College, University of Health Sciences, in Lahore, Pakistan. While in Pakistan, Dr. Ijaz organized free medical camps in underserved villages and led a team during the educational campaign against the Dengue epidemic.
In his spare time, Dr. Ijaz loves playing sports especially squash, cricket, badminton, and chess. He also enjoys hiking and exploring natural places.
