St. Joseph’s Health Welcomes Pulmonologist and Critical Care Physician, Dr. Pranita Ghimire

SYRACUSE, N.Y.— St. Joseph’s Health Hospital is pleased to announce Pranita Ghimire, MD, will continue her professional career in Syracuse, working in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Physicians Pulmonary practice.
Dr. Ghimire began her higher education in Dharan, Nepal, at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences where she received her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), graduating with honors. She then moved to Syracuse where she completed her Internal Medicine Residency with distinction in quality and patient safety, and her Geriatric Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowships at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
“I have had the privilege of working with an incredibly diverse patient population in the Syracuse area over the past seven years,” said Dr. Ghimire. “As a specialist in pulmonary and critical care medicine, I’m thrilled to continue my career at St. Joseph’s Health, a renowned center in acute respiratory distress syndrome and the life-saving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy. It is deeply fulfilling to be part of a team at the forefront of life-saving medical interventions.”

Dr. Ghimire has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts, many of which have been published in prestigious high-impact journals such as BMJ, Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the Journal of College of Medical Sciences-Nepal. In addition to receiving multiple awards throughout her career, she takes particular pride in securing the esteemed International Travel Grant from the American College of Surgeons which enabled her to present her work on deficient surgical care in a low-income country like Nepal.
As a dedicated mother of two children, Dr. Ghimire is a passionate advocate for children’s health and well-being, particularly in underserved communities. She is deeply committed to philanthropic work, recognizing the importance of fostering the next generation. Outside of her professional work, Dr. Ghimire enjoys spending time with her family. She loves biking, hiking, trekking, reading, meditating, and listening to podcasts.
