St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center Welcomes New Hospitalists
March 4, 2016SYRACUSE – St. Joseph’s Health welcomes Zaki Badawy, M.D., Deep Baraj, M.D., Jeffrey Hughes, MD, Neil Shah, M.D., and Asim Siddiqi, M.D. as Hospitalists at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse. As Hospitalists, the doctors’ primary role will be to focus on the general medical care of hospitalized patients and to maintain open lines of communication with primary care physicians and specialists ensuring a continuum of care for patients.

Zaki Badawy, M.D.
Dr. Badawy is a 2006 graduate of Syracuse University and earned his Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine in Domenica, West Indies, in 2011. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in 2015, following completion of his residency in Nuclear Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC in 2013.
His research in reproductive medicine has been published in Fertility and Sterility and the Maternal and Child Health Journal. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Deep Bharaj, M.D.
Dr. Bharaj earned her Doctor of Medicine from Saba University School of Medicine in Saba, Netherlands-Antilles and completed her residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, NY in 2015. Since 2012 she has served in the role of researcher for the study Trust in the Physician and Perception of the Quality of Care; examining the relationship between trust and quality of care within varied demographics.
Her certifications include: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Team Life Support (ATLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and the Medical Society of the State of New York.
Jeffrey Hughes, M.D.
Dr. Hughes earned his Doctor of Medicine from University at Buffalo School of Medicine in 2001 and completed his residency in Family Medicine at St. Joseph’s Health in 2004. Immediately following residency Hughes opened Village Family Care in Baldwinsville, NY where he served as attending physician until joining St. Joseph’s. In private practice Hughes provided comprehensive pediatric, adult and geriatric care including gynecology care and office based procedures.
He also serves as School Physician for the Lyncourt School District. Hughes is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Neil Shah, M.D.
Dr. Shah received his Doctor of Medicine from American University of Antigua, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2012. Prior to joining St. Joseph’s Health he completed his residency in Family Medicine St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, NY.
His certifications include: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Team Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and the Medical Society of the State of New York.
Asim Siddiqi, M.D.
Dr. Siddiqi earned his Doctor of Medicine from St. Matthews University, Grand Cayman Islands and a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in biology from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He completed his residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, NY in June 2015.
Most recently Dr. Siddiqi completed his residency at St. Elizabeth’s in family medicine with an emphasis in acute inpatient care. During his residency, Siddiqi taught and supervised medical students and interns.
His certifications include: Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Medical Society of the State of New York.
