SYRACUSE - St. Joseph’s Physicians Family Medicine, an affiliate of St. Joseph’s Health, announces the return of Michael Tong, MD, to its North Medical Center location in Liverpool, NY. Tong came to the United States from Vietnam when he was just 13 years old. Although he spoke no English when he arrived in Syracuse, Tong went on to graduate from Marcellus High School, Hobart College and received his Doctor of Medicine from Upstate Medical University.

“We are very excited that Dr. Tong has chosen to return to our practice,” said Julianne Himes, chief operating officer for St. Joseph’s Physicians. “Dr. Tong lives his passion for helping the people of our community every day. His expertise, values and innate desire to provide care to underserved populations strengthens our ability to provide excellent care throughout Central New York.”

Tong was inspired to pursue a medical career by his father who was a nurse in Vietnam. A member of the Central New York medical community since 2003, he has built a thriving medical practice focused on taking care of families and helping his patients understand the value of preventative medicine. Dr. Tong’s practice at the Liverpool facility is very diverse and includes families and individuals of all ages, and he is deeply committed to serving the Syracuse community, in particular, the immigrant population.

“Immigrant populations are often underserved by the medical community because of language barriers or cultural issues,” said Tong. “I am so happy to be back with my colleagues at St. Joseph’s; the facilities and staff make it possible for me to help patients thrive.”

Fluent in Vietnamese, Tong is one of the primary physicians serving the growing Vietnamese community in the area. He is currently accepting new patients at North Medical Center in Liverpool. To schedule an appointment please call: 315-452-2828
