SYRACUSE, N.Y.— St. Joseph’s Health is pleased to welcome Reem Akkawi, MD, a board-certified OB/GYN to St. Joseph’s Physicians Primary Care Center Main/OB-GYN. The practice provides individuals with the compassionate, supportive, personalized care they need throughout their lifespan.
Dr. Akkawi is a welcomed addition to the team of all-female providers and staff. She has an impressive history of providing a high level of care to women around the world. She is highly skilled in prenatal and post-natal maternity care from the most prestigious maternity center in Europe. She is certified in advanced laparoscopic skills and advanced outpatient gynecology experience.
“I am excited to continue caring for our community,” said Dr. Akkawi. “I’m looking forward to bringing more babies safely into this world and caring for all women at St. Joseph’s Health, in partnership with our other OB/GYN physicians and midwives.”
Dr. Akkawi earned her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons School of Medicine in Ireland and her undergraduate degree in Anatomy and Molecular Biology from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Ireland and completed her residency at Upstate University. She’s been in private practice in Syracuse since 2013.
Dr. Akkawi and her husband, Dr. Ziad El-Khally (Zek), a cardiologist at St. Joseph’s Health, live in Fayetteville with their children.
