National accreditation recognizes commitment to high-quality, evidence-based care for patients living with heart failure

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—  St. Joseph’s Health has earned Heart Failure Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology (ACC), recognizing the organization’s commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based care for patients diagnosed with heart failure. The accreditation reflects St. Joseph’s Health’s dedication to meeting rigorous national standards for the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of heart failure.

The ACC Heart Failure Accreditation program recognizes hospitals that have demonstrated expertise in caring for patients with heart failure through comprehensive care coordination, adherence to clinical guidelines, continuous quality improvement and a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. Accreditation is awarded following a thorough evaluation of a hospital’s processes, protocols and patient care practices.

“St. Joseph’s Health has demonstrated its commitment to providing Central New York with excellent heart failure care,” said Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, FACC, Chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award St. Joseph’s Health with Heart Failure Accreditation.”

"This recognition reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, technicians and support staff who work every day to deliver exceptional cardiovascular care," said Meredith Boss-Myers, Administrator, Cardiovascular Institute. "At St. Joseph’s Health, we are committed to continuously improving outcomes, expanding access to innovative therapies and providing our patients with nationally recognized heart care right here in Central New York."

Heart failure is a complex chronic condition that affects millions of Americans and remains one of the leading causes of hospitalization nationwide. Through coordinated care, advanced diagnostics, evidence-based therapies and ongoing patient education, St. Joseph’s Health is committed to helping patients better manage their condition and improve their quality of life.

The accreditation further highlights the strength of the St. Joseph’s Health Cardiovascular Institute (CVI), one of the region’s leading destinations for advanced heart and vascular care. The Institute brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts who provide seamless, coordinated care across the full spectrum of cardiovascular services, from prevention and diagnosis to complex interventions and surgery.

St. Joseph’s Health has long been a pioneer in cardiac care, performing the first open-heart surgery in Central New York and continuing to lead the region in advanced structural heart procedures, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and other minimally invasive treatments. The CVI also performs the largest annual volume of cardiac catheterization procedures in New York State outside of New York City and offers expertise in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, heart failure care, vascular medicine and women’s heart health.

The ACC offers hospitals and health systems access to a comprehensive suite of cardiovascular accreditation and quality improvement services designed to optimize patient outcomes, strengthen quality performance and support excellence across all aspects of cardiac care.
