St. Joseph’s Health Earns DNV Recertification as a Primary Stroke Center, Recognized for Exceptional Quality and Teamwork

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — St. Joseph’s Health is proud to announce it has successfully achieved recertification from DNV Healthcare as a Primary Stroke Center, reaffirming its commitment to delivering the highest level of stroke care to Central New York. This distinction reflects the extraordinary work performed every day and highlights a strong culture of quality, innovation, and teamwork.

During the recent survey, DNV surveyors repeatedly recognized St. Joseph’s Health for delivering some of the “best quality seen with no complications,” a notable commendation that highlights the expertise of its clinicians and the seamless coordination of care across departments.

“This recertification is a testament to our dedicated teams who work tirelessly to provide timely, evidence-based stroke care,” said Dr. Fahed Saada, neurologist and Medical Director of the Stroke Program. “From the moment a patient arrives in our Emergency Department through recovery, every member of our team is focused on achieving the best possible outcomes. We are proud to be recognized for the quality and consistency of care we provide.”

The survey identified several key strengths that distinguish St. Joseph’s Health Stroke Program:

  • A multidisciplinary approach clearly demonstrated during the DNV opening session, showcasing collaboration among physicians, nurses, therapists, and support staff
  • Unwavering teamwork supporting stroke patients across the full continuum of care, from emergency response and acute treatment to recovery and follow-up
  • Achievement of the Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus Award, recognizing adherence to the highest national standards of stroke care
  • The exceptional skill and responsiveness of Emergency Department triage nurses, ensuring rapid assessment and treatment
  • Advanced management of hemorrhagic stroke patients, which surveyors compared to some of the best programs in the country

“These outcomes reflect a deeply embedded culture of teamwork and accountability,” said Scott Ward, Stroke Program Coordinator. “Every discipline plays an important role, and our ability to work together ensures that patients receive timely, high-quality care when it matters most. This recognition from DNV reinforces that our people are making a real difference.”

As a DNV-certified Primary Stroke Center, St. Joseph’s Health meets rigorous standards aligned with national clinical guidelines and demonstrates an ongoing commitment to continuous quality improvement. The stroke program incorporates advanced protocols, rapid diagnostic capabilities, and coordinated care pathways to ensure patients receive the right treatment as quickly as possible.
