St. Joseph’s Health Expands Robotic Surgery Program with New da Vinci Single Port Robotic System

Syracuse, NY — St. Joseph’s Health has expanded its advanced surgical capabilities with the addition of the da Vinci SP (Single Port) robotic surgical system by Intuitive, offering patients access to the latest in minimally invasive surgical technology.

The da Vinci SP system is designed to perform delicate and complex procedures through a single incision. This innovative technology features a narrow, flexible port and a 3D high-definition camera system, giving surgeons enhanced precision, dexterity and control. Procedures using this platform may result in less pain, faster recovery times and minimal scarring for patients.

Dr. Po N. Lam, an affiliated urologic surgeon with St. Joseph’s Health and physician with Associated Medical Professionals of NY, has already begun performing procedures with the new system at St. Joseph’s Health.

“We are proud to bring this state-of-the-art system to St. Joseph’s Health,” said Dr. Lam. “The da Vinci SP platform allows us to reach and treat areas of the body that were previously more difficult to access with traditional robotic surgery. It’s a game-changer for our patients and our surgical team.”

“Our investment in this next-generation surgical system reflects our continued commitment to advancing care in Central New York,” said Meredith A. Price, CPA, FHFMA, Senior Vice President of Acute Operations at St. Joseph’s Health. “Bringing the latest technology to our operating rooms supports both better outcomes for our patients and a high standard of excellence for our surgical teams.”

St. Joseph’s Health has a long-standing commitment to surgical innovation. Over the next month, affiliated surgeons will begin training on the da Vinci SP system. The system is approved to support colorectal and urologic surgeries and will complement the hospital’s existing robotic-assisted surgery program.
