St. Joseph’s Health Launches Respiratory Therapy Residency Program to Support Early-Career Clinicians

SYRACUSE, N.Y.— St. Joseph’s Health is proud to announce the launch of its Respiratory Therapy Residency Program, a structured, 12-month program designed to support and develop newly graduated respiratory therapists as they transition into clinical practice.

Modeled after the successful residency established in 2024 by St. Peter’s Health Partners in Albany, this program reflects a growing commitment across Trinity Health New York to invest in the next generation of respiratory care professionals. The curriculum includes dedicated mentorship, immersive clinical rotations, and hands-on learning in high-acuity care settings. Residents will work alongside experienced respiratory therapists, gaining the skills and confidence necessary to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment.

“Launching this program at St. Joseph’s Health helps us create a consistent and supportive pathway for new graduates to enter the field with purpose and preparation,” said Brandi Ewing, MSRC, RRT-ACCS-NPS, AE-C, Regional Director of Respiratory Services at St. Joseph's Health and St. Peter’s Health Partners. “It strengthens our workforce and improves continuity of care for our patients.”

The first St. Joseph’s Health respiratory therapy residency cohort will begin in July 2025, marking an exciting milestone in the system’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the clinical workforce across Central and Upstate New York.
