St. Joseph’s Health Welcomes Back Dr. Scott P. Albert, Surgical Oncology Leader

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — St. Joseph’s Health is proud to announce the return of Scott P. Albert, MD, a highly respected surgical oncologist with more than two decades of experience, to its surgical services team.
Dr. Albert, who has longstanding ties to St. Joseph’s Health, rejoins the organization after serving in leadership roles at SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he most recently directed the Breast Care Program. His return further strengthens St. Joseph’s expanding cancer program, which was recently launched to provide patients with access to advanced therapies, clinical trials, and coordinated, multidisciplinary care through its partnership with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
A board-certified specialist in complex general surgical oncology, Dr. Albert brings advanced expertise in the surgical treatment of breast cancer and other complex malignancies. His clinical focus includes breast disease, endocrine tumors, melanoma, and other cancers requiring highly specialized surgical care.
Dr. Albert has deep roots in Central New York and at St. Joseph’s Health, where he previously practiced for many years and built a reputation for compassionate care and excellent outcomes. Throughout his career, he has been recognized by patients and peers alike for his clinical skill and commitment to individualized treatment, earning top patient ratings and recognition for his bedside manner.

Dr. Albert earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he also completed his general surgery residency and surgical research fellowship. He later completed a fellowship in surgical oncology at The Ohio State University, further refining his expertise in complex cancer surgery.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Albert has contributed extensively to academic medicine. He has authored and presented research on breast cancer, melanoma, and thyroid disease, with publications in leading medical journals including Annals of Surgical Oncology and Journal of Surgical Research. He has also received honors such as the Humanitarian Award from the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund for his dedication to patient care and community service.
