SYRACUSE, N.Y.— St. Joseph’s Cardiovascular Institute is pleased to announce Patrick Sowa, M.D, has joined its award-winning vascular surgery team.

Dr. Sowa received his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Saint Louis University in Missouri where he graduated magna cum laude and went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine at Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University in Illinois. He stayed in the Windy City to complete his general surgery internship at Rush University Medical Center and his general surgery residency at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center where he was the chief resident. Before coming to Syracuse, he completed a vascular surgery fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk.

“It’s exciting to have the opportunity to pursue my passion of vascular surgery with the collaborative and compassionate team at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital,” said Dr. Sowa. “I am committed to providing the highest quality of surgical services to my patients to give them the best outcomes possible. I’m confident I am in the right place to become a trusted resource in this wonderful community, and I look forward to continuing St. Joseph's legacy of excellent vascular care.”

Dr. Sowa also has certifications in endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery. He is co-author of several publications and presentations on surgical procedures and findings involving lymphoma, pancreatitis, using bovine tissue in vascular surgery, and more.

Dr. Sowa moved to Central New York from the Chicago area, where most of his family still resides. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, golfing, and hiking.
