da Vinci® Gynecologic Surgery

Gynecologic

Traditional open gynecologic surgery, using a large incision for access to the uterus and surrounding anatomy, has for years been the standard approach to many gynecologic procedures. However, in 2008, St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center was one of the first Central New York hospitals to utilize the da Vinci® Surgical System for sacrocolpopexy – the surgery used to fix a pelvic organ prolapse – significantly reducing not only the incision size, but also the length of recovery and pain experienced by the patient. Since then, St. Joseph’s has maintained its high level of dedication to using da Vinci®, performing more than 300 hysterectomies a year, with 98% of them minimally invasive vaginal, laparoscopic or robotic procedures.

Whether dealing with uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, menorrhagia, uterine prolapse, urinary incontinence or cervical and uterine cancer, robotic assisted surgery with the da Vinci® Surgical System may be the most effective, least invasive treatment option as compared to traditional open gynecologic surgery. Using da Vinci®, surgeons only need to make tiny, 1-2 cm incisions, providing greater precision and control, minimizing the pain and risk associated with large incisions and increasing the likelihood of a fast recovery and excellent clinical outcomes.

St. Joseph’s Health offers gynecologic surgery procedures including but not limited to:

  • Hysterectomy, BSO
  • Salpingoophorectomy
